Why Brooklyn families choose Modern Optical NY
Two decades of community care
Since 2002, we've cared for thousands of Brooklyn families — from newborns getting their first vision screening to grandparents managing age-related eye conditions. Our longevity is built on trust, and trust is built one appointment at a time.
Advanced lens technology, explained simply
We carry Varilux, Eyezen, Crizal, Transitions, and Xperio UV lenses — not because they sound impressive, but because each one solves a real problem. Eyezen reduces digital eye strain for people who spend hours at a screen. Varilux progressive lenses let you shift from reading to distance without a jarring transition. Crizal coatings eliminate reflections while driving at night. When we recommend a lens, we tell you exactly why it fits your life.
Personalized from your first visit
There's no one-size-fits-all prescription. We take time to understand how you use your eyes — at work, at home, during sports — and recommend lenses and frames that fit your daily reality. Most opticians hand you your prescription and send you to a wall of frames. We stay with you through the whole process.
Insurance we accept
We accept most major vision and medical insurance plans, including EyeMed, VSP, Davis Vision, Aetna, United Healthcare, Medicaid, and more. Not sure if your plan is covered? Call us at (718) 336-1060 before your visit — our team will verify your benefits and explain exactly what's covered, so there are no surprises at checkout.
What We Stand For
-
Patient Education First
We don't just hand you a prescription — we explain what it means. What does your IOP reading indicate? What's causing your dry eye? Why does your child need glasses now? Understanding your own eye health helps you make better decisions for years to come.
-
Access for Every Family
Good eye care shouldn't depend on your budget. We stock frames across a wide range of price points, accept most insurance plans, and offer flexible options to make sure cost is never a barrier to healthy vision.
-
Continuity of Care
We remember you. Your history, your preferences, your last prescription. When you come back — whether it's in a year or five years — you're not starting from scratch. We're your eye doctors for life.
Common questions
-
How often should I get an eye exam?
Most adults should have a comprehensive eye exam every 1–2 years. If you have diabetes, high blood pressure, a family history of glaucoma, or notice any changes in your vision, we recommend annual exams. Children should have their first eye exam at age 1, again at age 3, and before starting school.
-
Do you see children?
Absolutely. We provide eye care for patients of all ages, including infants, toddlers, and school-age children. Early detection of vision problems is critical for healthy development and academic performance.
-
What insurance plans do you accept?
We accept EyeMed, VSP, Davis Vision, Aetna, United Healthcare, Medicaid, Medicare, and most other major plans. Contact our office and we'll verify your specific benefits before your appointment.
-
Can I get glasses and an eye exam on the same day?
Yes. After your exam, our opticians will help you choose frames from our in-store collection, and many prescriptions can be filled quickly through our on-site optical lab.
